India head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for Covid-19 just days ahead of a high-octane opener against Pakistan in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022.
This comes as a big blow to the Indian side as the veteran couldn’t travel with the team to Dubai. BCCI today confirmed the same that the former captain has mild symptoms. However, the board said that Dravid will join the squad in the UAE once he returns a negative test.
“Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022,” the BCCI said in a statement.
“Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in UAE on 23rd August, 2022,” it added.
India will face rival Pakistan in Dubai on August 28, a day after the opener between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma will lead the team while KL Rahul will return as the vice-captain.
