India’s lone hope in badminton at the Tokyo Olympics, PV Sindhu failed to qualify for the final. The badminton star, who lost 18-21, 11-21 in straight sets to Chinese Taipei player Tai Tzu-Ying in the semi-finals, will play for the bronze medal.
PV Sindhu, who led 11-8 in the first half of the first set, could not stand before the Chinese player after that. The second half ended in a 16-16, 17-17 draw. However, Tai Tzu-Ying then won the first set 21-18, scoring consecutive points.
Tai Tzu-Ying, who showed aggression from the start of the second set, showed complete dominance over PV Sindhu. The Chinese Taipei player, who made Sindhu without a chance with smash shots, stormed into the final. Sindhu will now play China’s He Bing Jiao for the bronze medal.
