As discussion seethes about Indian citizens vying to avail a single dose of Covishield immunization, health specialists have now called attention that the Covid vaccine could cost exorbitantly between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 for every portion in private medical clinics in Kerala in relation to the open market prices declared for Covishield and Covaxin by pharma companies.
Indian Medical Association (IMA) state secretary P Gopikumar stated, the central government’s decision to supply vaccines through private hospitals will end in damp squib. It is seemingly not an issue in states like Kerala or in cities where people can afford the price, for over 50 per cent of the citizens who are below or just above the poverty line, a price of Rs 1,000 or Rs 1,200 for one dose or even Rs 600 is unaffordable.
He said, subsequently many under privileged individuals could skip the vaccine drive. This would create more turmoil as the nation wouldn’t see the desired outcome. It eventually would trigger the germination of new strains of the virus, caused by mutations and thereby leading to much dangerous situation.
