It is known that the incident where a Dalit man’s head was tonsured, the moustache was cut and allegedly beaten up with belt by the Police in East Godavari district has created a sensation and two cops were suspended for this act.
The state government has taken action against those responsible in connection with the case. But, there are several reports that the ruling YSR Congress Party leaders are the responsible persons for this horrible act and reportedly they influenced the police to perform such inhumane act.
So, Prasad, the victim wrote a letter to the President’s office asking permission to join the Naxals group as the real culprits are still roaming on streets.
He said that there are A1, A2, A3 and A4 in this case but only A3 & A4, the police were punished but not the political leaders.
With that, the President’s Office responded and issued orders to Andhra Pradesh GAD Assistant Secretary Janardhan Babu to look into the case. However, Prasad said there was no proper response from Janardhan Babu and the President’s Office further directed to transfer the case to the Central Social Justice Department.
It is being said that the assistant secretary of GAD was also influenced by the people in power and then the President’s office understood the situation in AP and directed Central Social Justice Department to look into the case.
For the past few days, many atrocious incidents came into limelight. A video of a police officer attacking a Dalit in Srikakulam district has surfaced. The police officer was seen kicking the victim, a Dalit man with his leg. However, the victim was made to say that he was reprimanded. In another case, it was the police’s zeal that led to the death of a Dalit man.
Now, many YSRCP leaders made fun of the Dalit youth for writing the letter to the President’s office. A prominent leader from the ruling party asked, ‘why one would need the permission of the president to join the Naxals?”
However, in the wake of the President’s Office taking the incident seriously, it has become very interesting to see how the Union Ministry of Social Justice will proceed in the case.
