Around 30,000 popular websites like Amazon, Zomato, Paytm, Disney+ Hotstar, Sony LIV, PlayStation Network, FedEx, which are extremely popular in the world, have suddenly faced major outages due to issues with internet infrastructure company Akamai Technologies.
An issue with the Domain Name System (DNS) has caused at least 29,000 popular websites and apps to go down. Several users reported interruptions on the website DownDetector.
This issue came just weeks after Akamai Technologies reported a serious interruption in service that hit insurance companies, banks and airline websites on both sides of the Pacific. Akamai said nearly 500 of its clients were briefly knocked offline due to a problem with one of its online security products.
The company later said it has fixed the issue that caused service disruption for widely used websites. Following this disturbance, Akamai shares dropped less than 1% to about $117.
