Justice Kanakaraj’s affair came to the fore in Andhra Pradesh. A public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court challenging the GO 57 issued by the government, appointing him as the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Police Complaints Authority.
The petition was filed by Para Kishore, a lawyer from Guntur. He has demanded the Home Ministry to cancel the GO issued on June 20 this year.
In this case, the Chief Secretary of the Home Department, the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Police Complaints Authority, and Justice V. Kanakaraj in personal capacity have been named as defendants in the case.
The petitioner said the appointment was made in violation of Rule 4 (a) of the AP Police Complaints Authority. Justice Kanakaraj is currently 78 years old. “The government has appointed Justice Kanakaraj in violation of the rules laid down by the Supreme Court in the Prakash Singh case,” he mentioned in the PIL.
