The latest film of talented actor Vishwak Sen, Ori Devuda, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, has been released today. The film has been carrying decent expectations around it, and a considerable amount of promotion has also been done for the film. Let’s see how the film has turned out to be.
Story:
The story centers around Ajay’s character, who marries Anu, his best friend after she proposes to him. However, the couple applies for divorce a year later, and in court, a stranger tells Ajay exactly what would happen in court. Who is this stranger, how does he know everything, why Ajay and Anu apply for divorce, and does Ajay end up getting divorced forms the rest of the story.
On-Screen Performances:
Vishwak Sen is the scene stealer, who has done especially well in the emotional scenes, and has carried the entire film adeptly on his shoulders. Mithila Palkar is the other scene stealer, who does complete justice to her role and brings about her character’s emotions quite well throughout the movie.
The supporting cast all do well in their roles. It is Venkatesh and Rahul Ramakrishna that make you hoot and cheer whenever they are on screen. Venkatesh is, as always, wonderful in his role, and leaves a longing impact in his short role. Rahul Ramakrishna is also good enough in his role.
Technical Performances:
While not having chosen a completely out of the box concept, director Ashwath Marimuthu deals with the story that he has written, in a unique and refreshing manner. He tells the story in a non-linear fashion, and has a fantastical element to assist his story, all of which work in the film’s favour.
The cinematography of the film stands out, with every frame looking beautiful and breathtaking. The cinematography is assisted by brilliant background music and songs, composed by Leon James, which elevate the scenes to a whole new level, especially the emotional scenes.
The production design of the film is also quite good, with the producers clearly not backing away when necessary. The editing is also on point.
Plus Points:
- Cinematography
- Background Music
- Lead Cast Performances
Minus Points:
- Meera and Ajay’s love track
- Too much drama in the second half
Verdict: Ori Devuda is a mildly entertaining romantic movie, which has some good comic moments imbibed into it. Movie works only in parts and will not appeal to all sections of the audience (especially in the B and C centers). It lacks much needed emotional depth.
