Onion is a necessity for common man in India. Almost all the curries will have onion and the high price tag of such an important ingredient is creating panic situation among the people in the nation. The shortage of onion made the prices go as high as Rs.200 per kg in few markets.
Currently the onion prices are coming back to the normal rates, thanks to the Maharastra farmers. Even though half of the onion crop is lost to bad weather in Maharastra in the last season, the farmers went ahead with another crop soon after, which is now giving the yield. Currently Hyderabad markets are getting filled with onions from Maharastra and the price of the commodity dropped down below Rs.100 per kg.
In Vizag, the price of onion is in between Rs.75 to Rs.85 while in Hyderabad the price is around Rs.70. Kurnool banned the export of onion to satisfy the internal demand for the product. In Raythu Bazaar, AP government is selling onions on subsidized rates of Rs.25 per kg.
