OG is Pawan Kalyan’s new film, which has created unprecedented hype with its promos. Directed by Sujeeth, Pawan Kalyan has also promoted the film on an aggressive note. Priyanka Mohan and Emraan Hashmi play key roles in this film, which has been produced by DVV Danayya. Let’s see how it is..
Story:
They Call Him OG arrives as a slick mafia-action drama that blends stylized violence with a layered underworld narrative. Set across Japan and Mumbai, the film opens with Satya Dada (Prakash Raj), a powerful port owner whose empire becomes the target of a Middle Eastern mafia trying to smuggle RDX. Their moves force the return of Ojas Gambheera (Pawan Kalyan), a mysterious warrior who has lived in exile for 15 years. His re-entry sets off a violent storm as he fights to protect Satya’s family and dismantle the mafia’s global network.
What about on-screen performances?
Pawan Kalyan: Charismatic, magnetic, and stylish, this is easily one of his best outings in recent years. His body language, dialogue delivery, and screen aura elevate even routine moments.
Emraan Hashmi: A solid antagonist who brings menace and gravity, adding strong conflict to the narrative.
Priyanka Mohan: Earnest but underutilized, with a track that feels more like filler
Prakash Raj gets a good role, but he has done the same in so many films to date, and there is nothing new that he can showcase in OG.
Ajun Das was dependable as always, and though the emotional beats of the family drama in the film don’t hit as hard as they should, things look okay to an extent.
What about off-screen talents?
The production design and costume work are first-rate, recreating the 1980s era with meticulous detail. Pawan’s styling deserves a special nod for enhancing his larger-than-life persona.
The CG team shines, particularly in the striking title card sequence, arguably one of the best in recent Telugu cinema.
Cinematography is another highlight, capturing Pawan Kalyan in both energetic and massy frames, with DI technicians adding finesse.
The action choreography is crafted with flair. The katana duel in the opening act, the high-voltage interval fight, and the intense second-half sequences are all staged with precision and style.
Thaman’s background score acts like a second hero, amplifying tension and giving mass appeal to every major moment. This is his best work to date.
The first half is a complete paisa-vasool ride, stylish action, suspense, family drama, and a rousing interval block. There are some mass moments when theaters will erupt.
The flashbacks that explore OG’s past add depth, while Emraan Hashmi’s entry raises the stakes. But the pace in the second half dips a bit in the last half an hour.
The second half begins strongly with the police station scene, destined to become a landmark in Pawan Kalyan’s career. However, as the narrative progresses, the screenplay loses some momentum, and the storytelling doesn’t fully sustain the same high-voltage energy.
What’s Hot?
Pawan Kalyan’s stunning act
Fan moments
Stylized action
Thaman music and BGM
What’s Not?
Routine Story
Lack of depth in emotions
Slow pace in the second half
Predictable ending
Verdict:
Overall, They Call Him OG is a stylish action entertainer that thrives on Pawan Kalyan’s commanding presence, Sujeeth’s fan-pleasing direction, and Thaman’s pulsating score. Though the second half falters in terms of pacing and emotional depth, the film still offers enough high points, action thrills, and star power to satisfy fans.
