Ever since it was announced that the Central Government plans to privatise the Visakha Steel Plant, there have been protests against the decision. The protests have been going on ever since, and they only got more severe, with the arrival of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, to Visakhapatnam today, by flight, as part of her three-day tour of the North Andhra districts.
As soon as the protestors got to know that Nirmala was arriving at the Visakhapatnam airport, they rushed to the airport, to protests against the privatisation of the VSP. However, the police force was strong at the airport, who obstructed the crowds from entering the airport premises. This resulted in a tussle between the activists and the police, and the Police detained 150 activists, who tried to breach the police cordon.
The activists raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nirmala Sitaraman and said that they would obstruct Nirmala wherever she went in the districts if the privatisation of VSP isn’t withdrawn. All in all, looks like the agitation against the privatization of VSP has gone to the next level, with the entry of Nirmala Sitaraman.
