Tamil Nadu-based Nilgiris collector J. Innocent Divya has made a sensational decision at a time when the corona pandemic is aggravating. Reportedly henceforth, anyone in the Nilgiris district will be imprisoned for six months, if they roam outside without wearing a mask. Tourist places in and around Ooty, Kannur and Kodanadu have been closed by the authorities.
A large number of corona positive cases were being reported in the district from the past four days. In this regard, the Collector issued directives to further make the lockdown regulations stricter to curb covid-19.
Subsequent to the assent to the ordinance, the sections 2 and 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act were amended. The norms set for wearing face masks, social distancing or quarantine would now be implemented in a more strict manner. The violator of the same could be jailed of up to six months or a fine of Rs 5,000,” the official said. Earlier Uttarakhand has made a similar rule.
Tamil Nadu has the second highest number of corona positive cases in the country. TN government has imposed an extended lockdown voluntarily till July 31st.
