The ongoing to controversy over the intermediate final year marks bungling, which already claimed 21 precious lives, has finally drawn the attention of the National Human Rights Commission. (NHRC).
Late on Friday evening, the NHRC has slapped notices on the Telangana State Chief Secretary. It sought a response from the government within four weeks from the date of receipt of notice. It responded to a complaint filed by Sunkari Naresh, an advocate.
NHRC wanted to know what action has been initiated against the guilty, which led to marks goof up resulting in as many as 21 youngsters ending their lives across the state. It also wanted to know from the government, what relief it had been given to the next kith of those who lost their lives.
The Commission said, if the reports appearing in media is true, it establishes serious lapses on the part of the Intermediate Board officials which tantamount Human Rights violation. Hence, a thorough probe in the matter is necessary to punish those who were guilty of this heinous crime.
What surprised many is that even meritorious students who passed in first class in the first year failed to clear the second year. This has raised many eyebrows. If one has to believe news reports in a section of the press, it was a private IT company which was re-assigned the job, though it was abandoned by the earlier governments, at the instance of powers that close to the government.
The three-member committee, which was appointed by the government to look into the goof-up, was found out that it was Globareena Technologies Private Limited (GTPL), which is solely responsible. “It was strategically err by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) in engaging GTPL,” the report pointed out.
Though, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao intervened and order for revaluation of papers to the utmost satisfaction of the student community, yet the NHRC notice bound to create some embarrassment to the government ahead of the civic body’s polls – ZPTC and MPTC. Incidentally, this MHRC notice has come after KCR was toying with the idea of advancing elections to GHMC, though the elected body tenure expires in 2021.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led Opposition would not like to leave any stone unturned and entrusted the job to Prof Kodandaram to hold a protest on Monday before the TSBIE in Hyderabad.
