As new variants like Omicron of the Coronavirus are spreading fastly around the world, scientists have discovered another deadly version of the virus – NeoCov in South Africa. Scientists from Wuhan lab in China have reportedly warned that NeoCov has a high death rate and high transmission rate.
According to reports, scientists in China discovered that the new variant of Covid-19 that was discovered in bats in South Africa is a relative of the MERS fever that has symptoms and effects the same as SARS CoV-2. The report also mentioned that the researchers have found that the fatality rate in the NeoCov virus is very high – ‘one in every three infected individuals’.
However, a study by Wuhan scientists found that the virus could transmit the virus from animal to human due to the mutation. This is according to a joint study by scientists from Wuhan University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences of Biophysics. However, this study has not yet been peer reviewed.
Scientists warned that there would be more deaths with this variant, similar to the MERS-CoV virus that was discovered in the middle-eastern countries in 2012-15.
