Once again it all came down to SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar vs YSR Congress Party. It is known that the Election Commission is very keen to conduct the local body polls but the AP government is not showing any interest in polls and most probably they are waiting for the completion of Nimmagadda’s tenure as election commissioner.
Everyone thought that YSRCP will have a chance to express their stand when Nimmagadda has decided to hold an all party joint meeting but the SEC has changed his plan at the last moment. Mr. Ramesh Kumar has asked the political parties to meet him separately and also submit their suggestions in the written form about their opinion on the polls.
Ambati Rambabu will represent the ruling YSRCP in this meeting while new TDP president Atchannaidu will attend on behalf of the TDP. Congress, CPM and CPI representatives will also attend the meeting. So, YSRCP has a disadvantage as Ramesh Kumar asked everyone to submit the written format of their agenda towards the election.
If the meeting would have held, YSRCP can make their stand clear to everyone and would have argued about the COVID threat to the voters. Now, the SEC has a great chance to ignore the argument of the AP government through written format as the SEC is an autonomous body and it can take independent decisions based on the suggestion of majority parties.
