Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2021, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni unveiled the team’s new jersey for IPL on Wednesday. To everyone’s surprise, this year, CSK has come up with a fresh look for their jersey. The jersey has a new camouflage design on the shoulders. The camouflage design has been printed as a tribute to the Indian armed forces.
It is worth stating that MS Dhoni is an honorary Lieutenant Colonel with the Territorial Army. The latest jersey of CSK with camouflage on the shoulders has not gone well with a few people on social media.
There is a special respect for the clothes worn by the Indian Army. No one has any authority to use these for any private events or commercial purposes.
However, in the one-day match between India and Australia after the Pulwama attack, Indian cricketers entered the ring wearing army hats as a tribute to the soldiers. That was an initiation from MSD then. Now, with Dhoni’s influence, the CSK management has imprinted camouflage design on their new jerseys.
We know, last year CSK didn’t perform as expected in the tournament which made fans angry. Chennai fans protested by throwing and burning jerseys last year, outraged with CSK’s performance.
If such a situation arises again, it will be an insult to the Indian Army. Without thinking about it, Dhoni and the CSK management added Army colours to their jerseys.
However, this is not the first time that Dhoni faced these kinds of comments over his consistent and open admiration for the Indian Armed Forces.
