The National Sports Awards Committee on Wednesday nominated 11 athletes for the Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award. Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj and football legend Sunil Chhetri are among the 11 athletes nominated for this year’s prestigious awards.
On the other hand, cricketer Shikhar Dhawan is among 35 sportspersons who have been selected for the Arjuna Award by the national sports awards committee.
For the unversed, Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award is India’s highest sports award. This year’s list includes Tokyo Olympics 2020 medalists Neeraj Chopra (gold, javelin throw), Ravi Dahiya (silver, wrestling), PR Sreejesh (bronze, hockey), Lovlina Borgohain (bronze, boxing) and Sunil Chhetri (football), Mithali Raj (Cricket), Pramod Bhagat (badminton), Sumit Antil (javelin throw), Avani Lekhara (shooting), Krishna Nagar (badminton), M Narwal (shooting).
Arjuna Award 2021: Yogesh Kathuniya (Discus throw), Nishad Kumar (High jump), Praveen Kumar (High jump), Sharad Kumar (High jump), Suhas LY (Badminton), Singhraj Adhana (Shooting), Bhavina Patel (Table Tennis), Harvinder Singh (Archery), Shikhar Dhawan (Cricket) and all Hockey Mens Players for Arjuna minus Sreejesh (Manpreet Singh already awarded the Arjuna in 2018).
