Marking National Statistics Day, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan paid rich tributes to Padma Vibhushan Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, describing him as the architect of India’s modern statistical system and one of the country’s greatest institution builders.
In a message shared on the occasion, Pawan Kalyan highlighted Mahalanobis’ remarkable contributions to nation-building through the establishment of the Indian Statistical Institute and the National Sample Survey. He said the legendary statistician’s pioneering work in statistical science and economic planning transformed the way India understands its population, measures development, and frames public policy.
He noted that Mahalanobis laid the foundation for evidence-based governance, helping governments make informed decisions in key sectors such as agriculture, industry, healthcare, education, and overall national development.
Pawan Kalyan said that as India moves towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat, the legacy of Professor Mahalanobis continues to inspire policymakers. He stressed that reliable data, scientific thinking, and evidence-based decision-making remain essential for achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Calling for a renewed commitment to Mahalanobis’ ideals, Pawan Kalyan said the finest tribute to the visionary would be to strengthen evidence-based governance and ensure that every public policy is guided by knowledge, precision, and the welfare of the people.
