The Andhra Pradesh government put forth its proposal of making Narasapur a district, with Bhimavaram as its headquarters. While anyone would normally expect everyone to be elated with this news, this has caused a lot of unrest in the area, with the people of the area being unhappy with the government deciding to make Bhimavaram the headquarters.
The local people are said to be of the opinion that Bhimavaram is developed enough, and has everything that Hyderabad has, which doesn’t make it eligible to be made the headquarters. They also allege that some people in Bhimavaram knew about this proposal fairly well in advance and bought huge chunks of land at throwaway prices. Given that Narasapur is a backward area, they feel that Bhimavaram as the district headquarters is a bad idea. The people of Penugonda and Palacole are also unhappy with this decision.
On the other hand, the Raju community is also said to be unhappy with the decision, as they were expecting the district to be renamed after the Raju community icon, and freedom fighter, Alluri Seetharama Raju. While the government has named the Manyam district near Vizag after Alluri, as that was where he carried out his freedom struggle, the Raju community is clearly unhappy with the government’s decision. It is now to be seen what action the AP government will now take.
