Mythri Movie Makers, a major production house in Tollywood, not only produces numerous films annually but has also ventured into distribution. Despite successes like ‘Salaar’ and ‘Hanu-Man’, their recent release ‘Operation Valentine’ didn’t fare well.
However, they’ve acquired the Telugu rights for the Malayalam blockbuster ‘Manjummel Boys’ for a mere 2 crores. The film, directed by Chidambaram, features Soubin Shahir and others in a survival thriller based on real events from 2006.
Despite its 14 crore budget, ‘Manjummel Boys’ crossed the 100 crore mark in Kerala. Similarly, Rajamouli’s son Karthikeya found success with the Telugu dubbing of ‘Premalu’.
Mythri Movie Makers’ move to acquire ‘Manjummel Boys’ rights reflects their strategy to tap into successful regional content for the Telugu audience, despite the film’s relatively low acquisition cost compared to its massive success elsewhere.
