The UAE will host the T20 World Cup from October 17. Many teams have already reached the UAE regarding the same. It is known that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad and appointed former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the mentor for the team in the mega tournament.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday said that MS Dhoni is not charging for his role as mentor of the Indian cricket team at the T20 World Cup. Mr Shah, on the other hand, was instrumental in getting Dhoni appointed as a mentor. He discussed with Dhoni and worked hard to get him to accept the proposal. He said that the BCCI is grateful for MSD as the former skipper agreed to serve the team during the World Cup.
Team India head coach Ravi Shastri informed captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma that Dhoni had agreed to the proposal. Meanwhile, India, led by Dhoni, won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.
Dhoni played his last match for Team India in the 2019 ODI World Cup against New Zealand. He retired from international cricket in August 2020. However, the MSD has continued to play for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
