In a major development, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings captaincy to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2022.
“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings since 2021, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” CSK said in a statement.
Jadeja will only be the third player to lead CSK. He was one of the four players retained by the team ahead of the new season mega auction including Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali.
In the 2012 IPL player auction, CSK bought Jadeja for approx. Rs. 9.8 Crore, making him the most expensive player of the year’s auction.
Meanwhile, Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond, according to the statement. The former Indian skipper has been the CSK captain since the league’s inception in 2008. He captained in 204 matches in the IPL and won four titles (in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021).
