Andhra Pradesh State Election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar had applied for an LTA leave way in advance, from March 19th to March 22nd. However, the SEC has now extended his leave, having written a letter to the Governor, Biswabhushan Harichandan, stating that he is postponing his leave due to the mayor and municipal chairmen elections.
Ramesh Kumar retires as the SEC of AP on March 31st, and he planned to make use of his LTA leaves before his retirement. While this a great plan for him personally, it has put the MPTC and ZPTC elections in great jeopardy.
The High Court has already received a lot of petitions, requesting for the cancellation of the old panchayat elections notifications, and requesting for new ones in its place. The HC is yet to gives its judgement on the issue.
While the municipal elections would be wrapped up by March 19th, it would not be possible for Nimmagadda to conduct the MPTC elections just a day before his retirement. Hence, it is now to be seen when these elections will be conducted.
