The Andhra Pradesh government has been attacking the Telugu film industry with some substantial shocks, beginning from slashing the price of tickets in the state, and then recently announcing that cinema tickets would have to be bought online, through a government-run platform, for prices that the government decides.
The AP government has now landed yet another blow to Tollywood, by choosing to continue 50% occupancy in theatres and deciding to go ahead with night curfews in the state, which would essentially mean that there wouldn’t be any second shows. Tollywood expected that theatres would go back to 100% occupancy and that the night curfews would be lifted in time for Dussehra, but the AP government has given a major shock to TFI.
The number of coronavirus cases has decreased significantly in most of the states in India, as a result of which, 100% theatre occupancy has been granted in all of them. Considering this fact, it is surprising that the AP government has decided on what it did.
