Upset over not getting a berth in the new cabinet, former Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha handed over her resignation letter to MP Mopidevi Venkataramana, who met her Sunday night to pacify her.
Addressing the media, Sucharitha has declared her resignation and said he was quitting for personal reasons. She announced her decision at a meeting with activists today.
The former minister made it clear that she would continue in the party. She pointed out that none of the other cadres in the ruling YSRCP should resign as it will detriment the party. However, several activists have already resigned in support of her in Prathipadu constituency.
In 2019, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had appointed Sucharita as the first Dalit woman Home Minister. Now, another woman MLA Taneti Vanitha, who was Woman and Child Welfare Minister in the previous Cabinet, has been allotted Home Department.
