The ruling YCP wants to get a majority in the Legislative Council but has got only 9 MLCs. It has added another 2 MLC from TDP. Therefore, YCP can get 11 MLCs so far against a total of 58 members of the council. Unfortunately, for CM Jagan Reddy, the main opposition TDP, has gained almost a majority as it has got 32 MLCs.
After excluding the two TDP members who transferred loyalty to YCP. While Jagan received an overwhelming majority in the assembly, Chandrababu Naidu received almost the same benefit in the council. As such, YCP has no choice but to win about 20 MLCs more than the opposition parties. YCP has to woo at least ten members from TDP.
Political analysts say that Jagan Reddy has many hurdles to successfully implement Operation Akash in AP Council under the present circumstances. The immediate obstacle is that most of the TDP MLCs have been hard workers, some of whom have been, since the party’s inception in 1983.
Council President Sharif is one such leader. Another obstacle is the play of adverse numbers. TDP still has an overwhelming majority. Even BJP and other opposition parties are not ready to support YCP in the changed political situation.
There is also a view that anti-Jagan sentiment has already created among the people due to demolition, cancellation, and political oppression of policies. Can ministers overcome all these obstacles to help Jagan in capital shifting?
