While India is battling with the rapidly increasing Covid-19 cases and death, the new fear of mucormycosis or black fungus is creating more worries. As per reports, this is a serious and rare fungal infection now affecting Covid-19 patients.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said there could be more than 2,000 Mucormycosis patients in the state and this number could increase with more and more coronavirus cases coming up.
The experts revealed the symptoms of Mucormycosis, which include headache, pain under the eyes, fever, nasal or sinus congestion and partial loss of vision.
Mr Tope said that black fungus has a 50% mortality rate and is found in COVID-19 patients with suppressed immunity or co-morbidities. Not only in Maharashtra, but many states in India have also already reported cases of mucormycosis.
