Madha Gaja Raja is a 2025 action comedy film written and directed by Sundar C. The film has Vishal, Santhanam, Anjali & Varalaxmi Sarathkumar playing the lead roles while Sonu Sood, Nithin Sathya, Sadagoppan Ramesh, Manivannan, Subbaraju, R.Sundarrajan, Manobala, Gayathri Rao, Raj Kapoor, Vichu Vishwanath, Rajendran, Sharat Saxena, Chitti Babu, Sudham, Swaminathan, Satya Krishnan, K. S. Jayalakshmi, & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Vijay Antony while the film is produced by Akkineni Manohar Prasad, Akkineni Anand Prasad, AC. Shanmugam & ACS. Arun Kumar under Gemini Film Circuit & Benzz Media (P) Ltd banners.

Story:

Madha Gada Raja, also known as MGR or Raju (Vishal), is a man who always helps others in need. Raju and his childhood friends attend a wedding where he learns about the problems his friends are dealing with and discovers that Kakarla Vishwanath (Sonu Sood) is the reason behind the troubles faced by his friends. How does Raju confront Kakarla Vishwanath for the sake of his friends? What exactly are the challenges faced by his friends? What role do Maya (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) and Madhavi (Anjali) play in this story? It needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Vishal plays his part effortlessly in a role that is tailor-made for him. He blends humor and heroism in a way that fits the film’s tone and he is superb in all the action scenes and dance numbers.

Anjali and Varalaxmi appear as regular female leads and perform what is expected from their respective characters. They add the much-needed glamour throughout the film, though their roles feel underdeveloped with an outdated romantic trope.

Santhanam, in particular, is a standout in the film, showcasing the comic timing that endeared him to audiences in the early 2010s. His comic timing along with his popular one-liners are the biggest strength of the film,

Manobala is a riot in a few episodes in the latter half. His deadpan comedy keeps us entertained.

Sonu Sood is wasted in a routine villain role that lacks scope. He played similar roles in a few other films and appears to be a bit monotonous.

Nithin Sathya, Sadagoppan Ramesh, Manivannan, Subbaraju, R.Sundarrajan, Manobala, Gayathri Rao, Raj Kapoor, Vichu Vishwanath, Rajendran, Sharat Saxena, Chitti Babu, Sudham, Swaminathan, Satya Krishnan, KS. Jayalakshmi, & all others are fine in their limited supporting portions.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Sundar C is bland. Since the film is 12 years old, the plot is obviously outdated and you already know what to expect in terms of making and writing. The plot is very simple and plain. A hero, two heroines, and the hero confronting an extraordinary antagonist for the sake of his friends is what the film is about.

The screenplay follows the age-old school template that Kollywood filmmakers have put on the back burner for quite some time. Though comedy is the backbone of the film, it delivers only in parts. The main conflict between the hero & villain lacks the punch that was required to complement the comedy portions. Even the romantic part with the 2 heroines is weak.

The first half is sprinkled with effective one-liners along with a couple of romantic tracks that look weak and routine. A subplot involving school gang wars comes across as overly dramatic, and silly. Also, the special cameo by Arya felt unnecessary, and some jokes felt dated. The interval scene gets us to the main conflict which doesn’t excite us. The latter half bogs down with an outdated hero-villain track but entertains towards the end with a funny track involving Monobala.

Director Sundar C does a neat job with his trademark presentation and formulas. He made sure he ticked all the boxes that are needed for a leave-your-brain-at-home kinda action comedy but had the blend between the humour and the action made a little more sense, the film would have worked wonders in Telugu too.

The Telugu dialogues are fine. All the funny one-liners are superbly written. But the Telugu dubbing for all the lead actors, especially the ones who can speak Telugu felt odd and their original voices could’ve been a lot better.

The cinematography by Richard M. Nathan is decent while the edit by Praveen KL & NB.Srikanth is very poor. There are a lot of places where the edit looked patchy and covered up.

The songs by Vijay Antony are forgettable as the songs and the Telugu lyrics never leave a mark. The background score is fine in places but not up to the mark in a few others.

The production values by Gemini Film Circuit & Benzz Media (P) Ltd are good.

What’s Hot?

* Santhanam’s Hillarious Comedy
* Manobala’s Funny Track In Second Half
* Well Written Comedy One Liners
* Glamorous Songs

What’s Not?

* Outdated Writing & Outdated Presentation
* Few Cliched Comedy Portions
* Routine Conflict & Weak Villain Portions
* Ineffective Songs
* Patchy Editing
* Poor Telugu Dubbing For Actors

Verdict: Overall, Madha Gaja Raja is an old template crowd-pleaser that has zero logic in the story but works in parts with mindless comedy and funny one-liners. Though the film has a lot of flaws and is completely outdated with its presentation, the film can be fun and lighthearted watch if you can ignore logic and enjoy Santhanam’s fiery return to form in through his trademark comedy roles.
