Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh has come forward with a major donation of ₹6 crore to help little Punarvika, a child from Kurnool who is battling a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder called SMA Type-1. The condition slowly weakens a child’s muscles and affects basic functions such as movement and breathing, making it one of the most severe forms of spinal muscular atrophy.
Punarvika’s treatment requires a life-saving injection that costs around ₹16 crore, making it nearly impossible for an ordinary family to afford. Her story recently moved people across Andhra Pradesh and beyond, triggering a wave of public support and donations. With the help of generous individuals, about ₹10 crore had already been raised through public contributions and fundraising efforts.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, Nara Lokesh announced that he would personally arrange the remaining ₹6 crore needed for Punarvika’s treatment. He praised the thousands of people who came forward to support the child and described their response as inspiring. Lokesh also directed his office to coordinate the process to ensure the funds reach the family quickly so that there is no delay in the medical treatment.
The minister appealed to people to continue supporting the child and her family during this critical time. He said that every contribution, big or small, reflects the compassion of society and gives hope to families facing rare medical challenges.
