We know Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of the three controversial farms laws that triggered outrage from the farmers.
The Lok Sabha today passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, through a voice vote. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar tabled the Farm Laws Repeal Bill in the Lok Sabha amid protests by the Opposition.
Opposition MPs demanded a discussion on the issue, but it was disallowed by Speaker Om Birla. The Union Cabinet approved the bill in a meeting last Wednesday.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting for the past year against the three laws and demanding they be repealed. The three laws were the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.
