Legendary Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan, affectionately known as Masterji, has passed away on Friday late night. Her daughter Sukaina Khan who was taking care of Saroj, reported her death. The 71 year old choreographer breathed her last subsequent to enduring a sudden heart failure in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai.
She is better survived by her half half Sohanlal, son Raju Khan and daughter Sukaina Khan. Her burial service was performed today morning at a graveyard in rural Malad. She was buried at around 7 am. The prayer meeting will be held following three days.
Saroj khan ruled the roost for almost 4 decades and choreographed 2000 songs for various films, which is an invaluable and unparalleled contribution by any choreographers till date.
Saroj Khan AKA Nirmala Nagpal started her career as a child artist at a very young age of 3. She began by playing the role ’Shyama’ in Nazarana. She soon joined as a background dancer under the guidance of choreographer B. Sohanlal, whom she married later.
After assisting choreographers, she bagged the first opportunity full fledgedly in Geeta Mera Naam (1974). Saroj Khan rose to fame after choreographing Sridevi in Mr. India’s song “Hawa Hawai” (1987). She additionally directed the dance for Sridevi in films like `Nagina’ and `Chandni’. She had a special bonding with Madhuri Dixit and choreographed her in the 1990s in songs like “Ek Do Teen”, “Hum Ko Aaj Kal Hai Intezaar”, “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga”, “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai”, and “Tamma Tamma”.
