Veteran actor-director Visu(74) had reportedly been suffering from kidney problem and finally expired at his home in the evening at Duraipakkam, Chennai. Initially he tried his hand and penned scripts for stage performances for theatre artist YG Parthasarathy’s drama troupe. In 1981 he worked as an assistant director with legendary creative director K Balachander. Later he penned the story for K Balachander’s movie Thillumullu in which he also had a cameo, and later on made his debut as a director with the film Kanmani poonga. He made his entry as a director to Tollywood with the film Aadadey aadaram.
Visu also became an actor with the film kudumbam Oru Kadamban Sampal‘ directed by SP Muttaraman and worked with heroes like Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. Rangachari’s role as Rambha’s father in Arunachalam’s film gave him a good reputation. His directorial Tamil film samsaram adu minsaram has bagged the National Best Picture award. Memorable dialogues and natural performances of artists including Manorama and Raghuvaran, remain etched in the hearts of the people. The film was later remade in Telugu with the name Samsaram oka chadarangam, which was a massive hit in the Telugu cinema in 1980’s and many of the later generation would have certainly remembered the title song. In his later years, he went on to become popular with his debate show, Arattai Arangam, which was aired on Sun Tv on every Sunday morning.
His contribution to cinema and stage is immense and everlasting. Many actors were shocked to hear the news on his sudden demise and sent condolences to his family on Twitter.
