Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao severely criticised the decision made by the central government of India, led by the BJP, where it rejected the proposal made by the government of Telangana, with respect to the second phase of Hyderabad metro.
KTR wrote a letter to the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, asking him to reconsider the centre’s decision. He questioned how the centre could deny Hyderabad the second phase of metro, considering that the city has really high traffic during peak hours. Regarding this, he said that it is a wonder how a number of small cities of UP like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra, Prayagraj, Meerut and other cities got qualified for metro projects.
This was in direct response to the statement made by Puri, which stated that since the PHPDT (Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic) and ridership is very less, Hyderabad does need a metro rail not require a metro project at this juncture. The second phase is proposed from Lakdikapul to BHEL and Nagole to LB Nagar.
