The much-awaited teaser of Kattalan, a high-octane Malayalam action thriller produced by Shereef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, has been unveiled amid electrifying fanfare. The teaser was launched at a grand event held at the iconic Vanitha–Vinitha Theatre in Kochi, Kerala, where fans, media representatives, and industry guests gathered in large numbers. The first public screening drew thunderous applause, instantly setting social media abuzz and signalling the arrival of a major cinematic spectacle.
Packed with relentless action and striking visuals, the teaser offers a gripping glimpse into the intense world of Kattalan. It strongly hints that the film’s core strength lies in its raw, never-seen-before combat sequences, promising edge-of-the-seat thrills. A major highlight is Antony Varghese’s powerful screen presence, as he is seen in fierce confrontations deep inside a forest, including jaw-dropping sequences involving an elephant. The makers have clarified through a disclaimer that these scenes were filmed using a real elephant, without any visual effects, adding to the authenticity and shock value. This role is being touted as one of the most commanding and mass-driven performances of Antony Varghese’s career.
Directed by debutant Paul George, Kattalan is positioned as one of the biggest Malayalam releases ever, with a worldwide theatrical release planned for May 14. The action sequences were choreographed in Thailand under the supervision of internationally renowned stunt coordinator Kecha Khamphakdee, celebrated for his work in the globally popular Ong-Bak series. Notably, the elephant “Pong,” made famous through the Ong-Bak films, is also part of Kattalan, and the action scenes featuring it have already left viewers stunned.
Adding further strength to the film is the music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath, who gained nationwide acclaim with blockbusters like Kantara and Maharaja. His background score in the teaser has been widely appreciated, elevating the intensity and scale of the visuals. The film has reportedly secured one of the biggest overseas deals in the history of Malayalam cinema and is said to have broken multiple pre-release records even before the completion of shooting. In association with Phars Films, the makers are planning what is being described as the largest overseas release ever for a Malayalam film. This marks another ambitious project from Cubes Entertainments, following the pan-Indian success of Marco. Earlier, the first-look poster featuring Antony Varghese in a stylish and rugged mass avatar had gone viral across platforms.
Mounted on a mega pan-Indian canvas, Kattalan features Dushara Vijayan as the female lead. The ensemble cast includes Telugu star Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Pushpa-fame actor Raj Tirandasu, Bollywood actor Parth Tiwari, and prominent Malayalam actors Jagadish and Siddique, along with popular faces like vlogger-singer Hanansha, rapper Baby Jean, and Hipster in key roles. The screenplay is penned by Joby Varghese, Paul George, and Jero Jakab, with dialogues by Unni R.
