Story
Ashu (Roshan Mathew) returns home after 14 years in prison for murder. While his brother Max (Mohit Raina) welcomes him, their old friends Pedro and Shardul keep their distance. The trio is building a luxury complex in Goa, but secrets lurk beneath. Desperate to fit in again, Ashu takes a dark, violent path to reclaim his place.
What about on-screen performances?
Mohit Raina as Max is one of the best actors in recent times and does well in the show. He has a complex role but pulls it of with a lot of ease and is good to see on screen.
Ninad Kamda as Pedro is also good in the show. The casting is spot on, and not once do you feel that one person is out of character. That is the way the cast has been selected.
Roshan Mathew is one of the most underrated actors in Indian cinema and does a terrific job in the show. It is his performance that keeps you on the toes till the end.
In many key scenes of the film, Roshan delivers a knockout punch. Be it his body language or expressions, Roshan is top notch and underplays things to keep the show above.
What about off-screen performances?
Chandan Arora has directed this eight episode series and takes things slow. He sets up the proceedings in such a way that it takes time to get to the main point.
He takes a lot of time to establish his characters and the world of Kankhajura. But once he does, the narrative is gripping till the end and does not bore you.
The twists showcased in the show are gripping, but towards the end, one also gets a feeling that things got a bit rushed, and it was too much for the audience.
The manner in which the life of Ashu from the past to the present is showcased through an engaging screenplay is the best part. Roshan deserves an applause for his performance.
The psychological drama is what haunts the audience. The gripping narration is for those who like thrillers that have a proper backdrop and has solid performances.
The camerawork in the film is top-notch as the locations chosen in Goa and its surrounding areas are showcased in a gripping manner throughout the show.
The emotions are so intense that it is hard to judge what the show is about. The manner in which the the story of Ahsu is showcased in a slow yet intriguing manner is the best part of the show.
What’s Hot?
- Roshan Mathews’ performance
- Basic storyline
- Strong emotions
What’s Not?
- Slow start
- Lag in mid-episodes
- Hurried ending.
Verdict: Overall, Kakhajura is a very interesting web series that takes time to grow on you. But once it does, it entrhalls you till the end. Just be prepared for the slow pace and the rest will be okay.
