The tragic death of 22-year-old Achala, cousin of actress Ashika Ranganath, has stirred widespread outrage after the accused remained unarrested even ten days after the incident. Achala, an engineering graduate from Hassan, died by suicide on November 22 while staying at a relative’s house in Bengaluru’s Panduranga Nagar, under the Puttenahalli police limits.
According to her parents, Achala had been facing severe harassment from Mayank, a distant relative who befriended her and allegedly pretended to be in love. He reportedly pressured her into a physical relationship before marriage and often forced himself on her. Family sources say Mayank, believed to be a drug addict, assaulted her physically and mentally, and repeatedly harassed her with continuous calls and threats.
Achala had recently completed her engineering studies and was preparing to start her professional journey. Her mother says the constant pressure, abuse, and emotional torture pushed her daughter into despair, ultimately leading to her taking her own life.
Although a case has been registered at the Hassan City Police Station against Mayank and his mother Maina, no arrests have been made so far. This delay has intensified anger among Achala’s family, who have demanded immediate action and justice for their daughter.
The incident has sparked a strong public reaction, with many calling for swift investigation and strict punishment for those responsible. Achala’s story has also highlighted growing concerns about harassment, emotional abuse, and the urgency for stronger protections for young women.
