The Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Prashant Kumar Mishra, has reserved his judgment on the petitions filed against GO 1. The GO 1 has regulated the conducting of public meetings and rallies in the state, which the petitioners have said is a political move by the YSRCP government, to restrict the opposition parties of the state.
The hearings on this petition took place on Monday and Tuesday as well, with the CJ reserving the judgment on the issue on Tuesday. He said that the AP government released the GO only after two incidents took place in the state where people died at public rallies. He said that the GO 1 has been issued in the interest of the people, and is in line with an earlier Supreme Court judgment.
The Andhra Pradesh government had earlier approached the Supreme Court over these petitions, but the SC redirected the petitions to the AP High Court. The chief justice had taken a very strong exception to the vacation court hearing the case though there was no urgency in it. Now, it is to be seen what his final verdict will be.
