The Andheri Magistrate Court in Mumbai has delivered a significant blow to controversial director Ram Gopal Varma. Back in 2018, a cheque bounce case was lodged against him in Mumbai by Mahesh Chandra from the company Shree. Despite multiple court notices over the past seven years, Ram Gopal Varma failed to attend any hearings.
Due to his repeated absences, the court, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, sentenced him to jail. He has been instructed to pay Rs. 3.72 lakhs as compensation to the complainant within three months, or face an additional three-month jail term.
Recently, during the re-release of “Satya,” Varma announced that he had turned over a new leaf and would now create responsible films, including one titled “Syndicate.” However, this court verdict has come as a major shock to him.
