The YSRCP government took the entire state of Andhra Pradesh by major shock when Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced, almost three years ago, about his 3 Capitals plan for the state. He proposed Amaravati, Kurnool, and Visakhapatnam as the three capitals of the state instead of Amaravati as the sole capital, citing that this was the best way to decentralize ruling and develop the state equally.
This naturally upset most of the population, especially the farmers of Amaravati, as they had given away their lands for the development of Amaravati as an international capital. They filed several court cases, and the Andhra Pradesh High Court even ruled in their favor in these cases, with the HC passing the order to reinstate Amaravati as the sole capital of AP on March 3rd this year. Nevertheless, the YSRCP, and CM Jagan, don’t seem to be bothered about what the judiciary has to say, as they continue to be hell-bent on the three capitals idea.
Jagan once again rehashed his three capitals plan on the occasion of the 75th Independence day today, in Vijaywada, after hoisting the national flag. He said that he introduced several schemes in the three years he’s been in power for the betterment of the state and that the three capitals are one of them. On the other hand, Jagan is said to be actively seeking to make the three capitals a reality as soon as possible and is expected to meet with the AP HC Chief Justice very soon to negotiate the shifting of the High Court to Kurnool. All in all, Jagan doesn’t seem to be of the intent to stop his three capitals obsession, and it is to be seen whether he will make it a reality or if the people of AP will be able to keep Amaravati as the sole capital.
