In early July this year, Union Minister of Law and Justice, Kiren Rijiju, clarified that the centre has nothing to do or say with regards to the shifting of the High Court from Amaravati to Kurnool, and it is a matter between the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minsiter and the AP High Court Chief Justice. He also clarified that the state government would have to bear all the expenses for this shifting.
It is now being said that Jagan is expected to meet the Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice, Prashant Kumar Mishra, in September to talk to him and finalize the shifting of the HC to Kurnool. It is also being said that Jagan is worried about the possible interference of Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana in the matter, as he is an ally of the TDP.
On the other hand, whether or not NV Ramana interferes and influences the matter, it is to be noted that the AP treasury is not at its strongest point right now, with the state’s finance in deep debt, on a scale that’s never been seen or heard of, in the history of the state. Another thing is that the AP HC complex in Amaravati is a fully functional one, having been constructed during Chandrababu’s reign, so shifting it to Kurnool with a new building again would be a useless expenditure.
