Even after the multiple warnings by the Centre, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is still moving ahead with the re-tendering of Polavaram project.
According to Polavaram Project Authority, the re-tendering process will delay the project even more and will also increase the cost of the overall project. PPA informed the same to the state government and suggested to continue with the Navayuga. But the state government claimed that there were irregularities to the tune of Rs 3797 crore, as reported by the Technical Committee of the YSRCP government.
As the things went out of hand, PPA called off the meeting, saying that there would not be any support from the Centre and all the expenses will have to be shouldered by the AP government itself. In a fund-scarcity situation, the AP is currently in, handling the expenses of Polavaram project, is next to impossible.
In that way, the state government is left with the only option of calling off the project, which can result into the severe criticism from the public and may impact the political prospects of the YSRCP in the coming years. Adding to it, Jagan may also become an easy target to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which may further worsen his position.
