We all are aware of the ruckus that the local body elections created in the state. The violence that happened during the nomination process and the postponement by the SEC due to the Corona effect have changed the complete context of the AP politics all of a sudden.
After few months, despite all his controversial decisions, amid severe criticism and some jolts from the High Court Jagan took the driver seat in AP politics and now he hinted about the delay in the local body elections. The YSRCP government has taken a key decision to extend the term of the special officers who were appointed for the local body elections.
A notification was issued on Thursday extending the term of the special officers in 108 corporations, municipalities, and city panchayats in Andhra Pradesh. “The notification was issued because the state election commission postponed the local body elections due to the coronavirus pandemic,” the municipality department stated.
In fact, the term of the special officers of the corporation came to an end on March 10th this year, on June 30 in the municipalities, and on July 2 in the city panchayats. Now, except for Srikakulam corporation in which their term was extended to October 10th, all other municipalities and corporations will have these officers in force till December 31st in some and January 2nd, 2021 in others.
Now, it is clear that the AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is up for a challenge as he intentionally resolved himself for the postponement of local body elections. As we said before he may opt to go for elections after the new districts emerge in the state and this will be a real challenge to the State Election Commissioner and the opposition as well.
