Allari Naresh, who is predominantly for his work in the comedy genre, has seemingly changed his path forever with his last film, Naandhi, and is now back with yet another hard-hitting drama – Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam. The film has been released today, and let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Srinivas Sripada, a teacher, is tasked with conducting elections in Maredumilli, a tribal village. He goes to the village with his team and interacts with the tribal people of the area, and while living there, he gets to know the various problems and issues that the locals are facing. What he does about these problems and what is the final resolution forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Allari Naresh gives his best to the character that he is given. As usual, he brings out his dramatic chops and performs exceedingly well. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that he has single-handedly carried the film on his shoulders.

Aanandi is good enough in her role. While she has a little scope for performance in the first half, she’s reduced to a glorified extra in the second half, making you feel as though her character could have been dealt with in a much better manner.

Vennela Kishore, Praveen, Sampath Raj and the rest of the supporting cast are all good in their roles as well, proving the necessary flow to the story, through their characters.

Off-Screen Talents:

Director AR Mohan, who has also written the script, has most certainly chosen a very good concept for his film. He does end up delivering the message he wants to, towards the end of the film, but in the process of delivering the message, he seems to have lost his way. The screenplay is also very predictable, and the director takes his own time to set up things and take them forward, which can be a little testing. The concept of the film is brilliant, but the execution has severely been affected.

Sricharan Pakala’s background music is good. However, his songs are not catchy and can’t even be remembered well. Raam Reddy’s camera work is quite pretty, which is enhanced by the production design. The editing work could have been a lot better.

Plus Points:

  • Naresh’s performance
  • Ultimate message

Minus Points:

  • Predictable screenplay
  • Poor execution
  • Slow narration

Verdict: Apart from a brilliant performance from Naresh, Itlu Maredumilli will only cater to someone who is into message-oriented films. Apart from that, the film can be skipped.
