Former India captain Sanjay Bangar has been appointed as the new head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore. The franchise has appointed him as the head coach for the next two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons. Bangar, however, has been the team’s batting coach for the past few seasons.
Simon Katich, who was the head coach of RCB in the first phase of IPL-2021, missed the second phase due to personal reasons. Mike Hesson took over temporarily in his place. Hesson, however, will continue with the team as Director of Cricket Operations.
“It’s an honour and a great opportunity to serve such a great franchise in the capacity of Head Coach. I have worked with some exceptional and talented members in the squad and can’t wait to take this team to the next level,” the newly appointed coach said.
RCB will enter into a new era as Virat Kohli has already resigned from his captaincy after IPL 2021. The batting star said he would continue to play for RCB. Ahead of the mega auction, Sanjay Bangar will work closely with Hesson.
