The Andhra Pradesh government is actively pursuing opportunities to host IPL matches, despite not having a dedicated IPL team. Their strategy focuses on leveraging existing infrastructure and stadium development to attract cricket matches to the state.
The Andhra Cricket Association has been working on upgrading the Mangalagiri stadium, with recent efforts concentrated on repairing the ground and bringing it up to international standards. This initiative is part of a broader plan to position the state as a potential venue for high-profile cricket matches.
Despite the lack of an IPL team, Andhra Pradesh has seen significant cricket talent emerge. In the recent IPL 2025 auction, five players from the state were picked up by various franchises, including Nitish Kumar Reddy (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Shaik Rasheed (Chennai Super Kings), and Pyla Avinash (Punjab Kings).
The government remains hopeful that by demonstrating stadium readiness and showcasing local talent, they might attract IPL match allocations and generate positive publicity for the region.
