Before the IPL 2022 mega auction, Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni seems to have made a key reference to team ownership. According to the latest rules amended by the BCCI, IPL franchises have the option of retaining four players.
The franchise has already revealed that the team will retain team captain Dhoni as their top priority in this regard. It is against this backdrop that Dhoni is reported to have revealed the word in his mind.
CSK owner Srinivasan himself declared that the skipper was against the retention policy and that Dhoni had advised him not to retain him and waste money unnecessarily.
“MS Dhoni is a fair person, he wants retention policy to come out as he doesn’t want CSK to lose lots of money while retaining him – that is why he gives a different reply to everyone,” said N Srinivasan.
However, Srinivasan has said that they will put Dhoni’s word on this one issue and retain him for next season. The franchises will have to spend Rs 16 crore for their first priority player.
Meanwhile, Dhoni, who has maintained an inseparable bond with CSK since 2008, has been with CSK throughout the league, except for two seasons in between. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK has clinched the title in the recent season (2021). This brings to four the number of titles Dhoni has won for CSK.
