In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the ongoing IPL 2021 amid a rising number of Covid-19 cases among players and support staff.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirms tournament suspension for this season. As of now, several players like SRH’s Wriddhiman Saha, Amit Mishra, Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier, CSK’s bowling coach L Balaji, and a bus cleaner have tested positive.
A total of 29 games were played this season so far. The 30th match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders was rescheduled on Monday after Chakravarthy and Warrier tested positive in the IPL 2021 bio-bubble.
The BCCI now is in talks with the governments to ensure safe travel for the overseas players.
