In an alarming development, India’s Omicron case tally has surged to 961 after many states saw an exponential rise in daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.
As per official data, Delhi currently has 263 Omicron cases while Maharashtra recorded 252 cases, followed by Gujarat with 97 cases, Rajasthan with 69, Kerala with 65 and Telangana with 62 cases. Of the 961 cases, 320 Omicron cases have recovered or been discharged.
Meanwhile, India reported 13,154 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The country’s active caseload stands at 82,402.
Amid the surge, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed concerns over the Omicron and Delta variants of Coronavirus producing a tsunami of cases, but he hopes that the world will put the worst of the pandemic behind it in 2022. As per the WHO, the overall risk related to omicron remains very high.
