Indian women’s hockey team’s dream of getting their first Olympic medal remained incomplete as it lost 3-4 to Great Britain in a bronze play-off match at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian women had already created history and surpassed all expectations by entering the semifinals of the Games for the first time.
Ellie Rayer and Sarah Robertson gave Great Britain the lead, but India’s Gurjit Kaur scored two back-to-back penalty corners and Vandana Katariya got one. However, Hollie Pearne-Webb and Grace Balsdon scored to give their side the lead against the Indian team.
But, the Indian women’s team’s Tokyo 2020 campaign hasn’t ended like a losing side, but they have won the hearts of a billion and more for their hard work.
On the other side, the men’s hockey team achieved a remarkable feat by claiming an Olympic medal after 41 years. The team defeated Germany 5-4 to win the bronze in an edge-of-the-seat play-off match.
