During the grave situation of rising covid-19 cases in the country, the transportation of medical oxygen became a crucial issue, Indian Railways took the movement of oxygen express as a challenge and ran the first oxygen express from Kalamboli to Vizag and back upto Nasik successfully.
Indian Railways is leaving no stone unturned to serve the nation in the tough times of the pandemic. With Oxygen Express, Railways is ensuring that the medical oxygen is available to COVID-19 patients across the country.
It is running OxygenExpress in response to its fight against COVID19 Transportation of Oxygen through Trains is quicker over long distances than road transport. Trains run 24×7 unlike road transports thereby cutting down the time in helping citizens.
As oxygen in cryogenic state is perilous, railways must avoid sudden acceleration, deceleration and need to monitor pressures in between, especially when it is in loaded condition. Yet, railways surmounted the challenge, mapped the route, trained people and could facilitate these particular size tankers to the Vizag via Vasai, Surat, Bhusaval, Nagpur route.
For the hassle free movement of Ro-Ro service, Railways had to map the entire route considering the various constraints that comprise Ghat sections, Road Over Bridges, Tunnels, Curves, Platform canopies, Over Head Equipment etc. at certain areas. Now many states are vying to get this service.
