In a significant development, India has witnessed a huge spike in the daily Coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours. The other day, the country reported 1,17,100 cases, after seven months and shocked everyone.
Now, in yet another grim record, India has reported 1,41,986 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 21.3 per cent higher than yesterday. With the addition of new cases, the total caseload has climbed to 3,53,68,372.
Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 40,925 cases, followed by West Bengal with 18,213 cases, Delhi with 17,335 cases, Tamil Nadu with 8,981 cases and Karnataka with 8,449 cases. The country has also reported 285 deaths in the last 24 hours, increasing the total death toll to 4,83,463.
Meanwhile, the world surpassed the terrible milestone of 300 million Covid-19 infections on Friday, as cases continue their excessive surge fuelled by the Omicron variant. In the past 7 days, 34 countries have reported their highest number of weekly cases since the inception of the pandemic.
